Happy 100th Day of School!!!! What a fun-filled day we had.  We began our day writing about what we will be like when we are 100 years old.  We will put the writings together in a class book to be checked out.  Stay tuned.  Next we had a visit from author Drew Daywalt.  We also read a 100th day poem, did a search of 100 things, a 100th day workout, and played a 100's Day math game.  We also shared our collections of 100.

What a great day we had to go to the Morton Arboretum.  The weather could not have been better.  The students had a great time learning all about bugs.  A big thank you to Mr. Diestel and Mrs. Kostelnick for accompanying us on our trip.  Here are a few photos from our outing.

Happy Friday First Grade Parents

This morning we did i-Ready testing for about 20 minutes.  The students did an outstanding job during the testing using the iPads.  Some of the students have ear buds and stated they were uncomfortable.  Please check with your child to see how they felt about their ear buds if they used them.  After, we had a guest visitor, Ms. Mann.  She shared with the students how to make an origami dog.  The students brought their dog home in their folder.  I do my best to get all the students in pictures.  If your child is missing, I apologize.

We had a fun day in math.  Students began with a warm-up by counting by two's.  Students then constructed twin-pop popsicles (double stick) and arranged them in rows adding one more in each successive row.  We discussed the patterns.  After, the students had time to free explore at one of three Work Stations (dominoes, Unifix cubes, pattern blocks.

We could not have asked for a better day to visit the Nature Center to participate in the program "Furry Friends."  Students learned all about what makes a mammal a mammal and then went out onto the grounds to complete a scavenger hunt.  A big thank you to our chaperones: Mrs. Daly, Mrs. Amayun, Mrs. Nowak, Mrs. Panagiotopoulos, Mrs. Beerman, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Parisi.
