Happy Valentine's Day

What a day it was!  We wrote in our journals about caring.  We decorated bags to store our valentines, we read a Valentine's Day story, we did a math activity counting, tallying, and graphing candy conversation hearts and we ended the day with our valentine exchange.  I am exhausted.  Good thing it is a three day weekend.  Here are a few photos to share of our fun-filled day!

Dear First Grade Parents,

We survived 100 Days in first grade.  We had a fun day to celebrate this feat.  We shared our collections and put items on a balance beam to see what the lightest collection and what was the heaviest collection.  The lightest was a collection of 100 rubber bands and the heaviest was a collection of 100 seashells.  We also wrote about what it would be like to be 100 years old.  We wrote about what we would look like, the kinds of things we would do and not do, where we would live etc.  I will compile all the writings and make a book for families to read.  We illustrated our writing as well.  They did a great job.  We also played a math game called "Race to 100."  We worked with a partner to roll two dice 100 times.  Each time a student rolled, the dots on the dice were added and a tally mark was made for the total.  At the end, each pair determined which sum was rolled the most and which was rolled the least.  We also estimated how many times we could do certain tasks such as clap hands, say the alphabet, hop up and down etc...in 100 seconds and once we estimated, we did the task.  We wrote 100 words and wrote the numbers 1-100.  We had lots of fun and we hope you enjoy our pictures.
